JLFCCH curriculum philosophy is based on the fact that children learn best from doing and children learn through play. Our activities and play time will provide opportunities for growth in social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. During the day, your child will discover many activities that allow him/her to learn about the world. Drama, science, math, art, reading readiness, computer, fine and gross motor skills are all integral components to our active learning centers. At the teacher’s discretion a workbook may be requested for your child’s learning experience.
At JLFCCH children will engage in screen time and other media use when it is used to enhance learning. Screen time use will be monitored by the adult. Children will be allowed to participate in screen time activities lasting no longer than 2 hours per week. Children are allowed to use various forms of technology as an exploratory opportunity. There is no screen time for children 2 years old and younger.
The staff receives professional development on screen time practices annually and families are provided information throughout the year.
JLFCCH supports healthy eating by providing children with nutritious meals and snacks. We serve meals that offer healthy choices including lean protein, whole grains, fruit, vegetables, and dairy. Meals and snacks are low in sugar and fats, and we limit processed foods to a minimum. We encourage children to try developmentally appropriate servings of foods. Children are provided child-size tables, utensils, and serving dishes at mealtime and given opportunities outside of mealtime to strengthen pouring and scooping skills that can be utilized during family-styled dining. During family-styled dining staff role model positive healthy eating behaviors by eating with the children, we also provide nutrition education at least twice a year to staff, children, and parents regarding healthy eating. All menus are prepared to meet the daily nutritional requirements of children and meet the standards of the child and adult care food program. Weekly menus are posted for parents to review. Parents whose children have special food needs or allergies should discuss the menu with Ms. Michelle Rowles. Please do not bring outside food to the facility. Arrangements can be made if you would like to provide a snack for a birthday or special event. Due to COVID family-style dining currently not used.
Children attending JLFCCH will play outdoors daily for at least 1 hour when the weather and air quality conditions do not pose a significant risk. Time planned for outdoor play and physical activity depends on the age group and weather conditions. Activities shall include structured (led by the adult caregiver) and unstructured (not led by an adult) physical activity. Children should be dressed appropriately for the weather, including wearing appropriate seasonal clothing and footwear, so they can participate fully, move freely, and play safely.
